Now is the time for food and farm businesses to get ready for the Heartland Regional Food Business Center’s Business Builder Subaward grant program. It is designed to build farm and food businesses serving local and regional markets.

Heartland Regional Food Business Center partners assist food and farm businesses in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.

Business Builder Subawards

The Heartland Regional Food Business Center will support food and farm businesses’ next-step investments through its $10 million Business Builder Subaward grant program.

Business Builder Subawards will support investments that a farm or food enterprise makes to strengthen business viability or expand market access. Business Builder Subawards are for specific physical, technical or logistical needs of small and mid-size food and farm businesses.

Examples of projects for Business Builder Subaward support include feasibility studies, staffing, coordination with distribution and other partners, product development, marketing materials, certain equipment, and specialized consulting.

Not eligible are on-farm production and food assistance activities.

STAY TUNED: The Heartland Food Business Center will issue its first request for proposals in late 2024.

* Eligibility

An eligible entity is:

  • Business or organization that is domestically owned. “Domestically owned” means an entity organized in the United States under the law of the State, the states, or under Tribal jurisdiction where the entity operates, and a majority of the entity is owned by U.S. citizens)
  • Business or organization with facilities physically located within the 50 States of the United States, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Heartland Regional Food Business Center respaldará las inversiones de empresas de alimentos y agricultura a través de su programa de subvenciones Crear Su Negocio “Business Builder” Subaward de $11 millones.
